Ohio Northern University First Track Meet

The Ohio Northern University track team had a successful first track meet with he girls getting first place and the men getting second place. The women scored 165 points in the meet, the one many events such as, the distance medley relay, 400 meter dash, 500 meter dash, and others. Mount got second in the women's with 157 points. Emily Richards broke the school record in the 500 meter dash with a time of 1:17.26. Maddie Reed, a freshman pole vaulter in her first meet set the tone for her fellow competitors when she landed herself 17th already on the national list. Reed pole vaulted 11-03.00. On the mens side, Mount Union put up a first place score of 171. ONU Men's team scored a total of 150 points to come in second but had many notable athletes. Senior hurdler Robbie Brinkman broke the record with posting a time of 8.62, the previous record was held by senior hurdler Matt Craven with a 8.66. Other key notes from the Men's side of the meet was ONU freshman Avery meadows. In his first meet, has already qualified for all of his three events for the OAC Championship. Coach Maus and Gantt both agreed that the Bears had a successful first meet and are hoping for big things. Make sure to check the Bears out in their next meet next weekend at Gand Valley State University in Michigan.

  1. That's awesome to here that the track team is off to a good start. I can't believe people broke records the first meet of the season. I bet they have a strong season ahead of them. It sounds like both the girls and guys have a well put together team. It will be interested to see how the season plays out for ONU.

  2. Honestly, I did not know or even expect ONU's track team to be a strength amongst the sports. I've ran track for about 11 years before coming to Ohio to play football and I also was juggling between whether or not I should play baseball or run track in the off season. I see I have something to think about for next year. Glad to hear the productivity is paying off!
